About Me

Design Hoard aims to collect and store useful sources of design information such as museum visits, websites, talks and books. The blog is also used as an 'online concept book' to present quick pieces of work or visual concepts. Essentially we love to 'hoard'design.

A bit 'About Me'
Q&A

Name: Helen Tartaglia

Places/Situations I have ideas in: Mainly busy places where I have time to think and observe such as restaurants or cafes. However, most of my ideas come from places where I am designing or observing others work such as museums or just being at home at my desk.

Things I wont miss about home: It would probably take a lot less time if I told you what I would miss about my home town! However, I have composed a small list below.

1. The large collection of Poundlands and charity shops
2. The pigeons in the precinct
3. My Mum nagging me about turning of lights and opening curtains (although I probably will miss my Mum)
4. The 'Abingdon accent' that turns my name from Helen to Ellen
5. The fact everyone seems to know everyone and is, in one way or another, related to everyone!

In ten years time I will be: Living in London/New York and working for one of the top design agencies.

I was inspired by this board for its range of medias, in particular the use of photomontage and ink. I  felt it was a useful resource for looking at a medium we wouldn't usually class as 'Graphic Design'. Often I find the best and most innovative ideas come from looking at unexpected sources of inspiration.

What particularly interested me when creating this pinterest board was the stories behind each of the covers. In one way or another Musician and Artist came together to infuse their ideas. Some were made up of political and social ideas, for example Jamie Reid's 'God Save The Queen', whilst others like the album Elegy by The Nice's were totally handmade with near enough no computer technology involvement.
